About
I've spent the last nine years building a life in Sydney: a proper one, with a full-time job, a routine, all of it. On paper, that's not the profile of someone who treks to Everest Base Camp lookout on Christmas morning, drives solo from Sydney to Hobart in five days, or spends almost two years car camping every weekend she can get away.
End of the trail, Los Glaciares National Park, Patagonia: one of the views that started all of this.
But that's exactly the point of this blog.
Why This Exists
Most travel writing comes from people who've built their whole life around travel: quit the job, sold the apartment, gone all in. That's a great story, but it's not a very useful one if you're someone with a 9-to-5, a mortgage, or just a life you're not trying to escape. I'm not trying to escape mine either. I just refuse to let it be the reason I don't go.
This blog started, unofficially, on a mountain in New Zealand, with a 2am alarm, a headlamp, and a sunrise over Lake Wanaka that rearranged something in me. Since then it's been Nepal, Patagonia, the Blue Mountains most weekends I can manage, and a car that's spent almost two years' worth of nights parked at trailheads, more than I'd probably admit to my landlord.
What You'll Find Here
Big treks told honestly (sunrise moments and near-disasters both), smaller day hikes and road trips to actually get you started, almost two years of car camping know-how, and real numbers throughout (costs, difficulty, gear) instead of guesses dressed up as advice.
Who This Is For
If you've ever thought "that looks amazing, but I could never actually do that", this is written for you. Not because the trips are easy, but because most of what stops people isn't fitness or money, it's not knowing where to start, what it actually costs, or whether they're "the type" who does this kind of thing. I don't think there is a type. I think there's just people who went, and people who are still planning to.
What's Next
This started as a place to put my own trip journals somewhere better than a phone folder. Where it's going: I'd love for this to grow into a real community for people who love nature, hiking, and bigger trips, somewhere with the depth and honesty that a lot of travel content skips past. Longer-term, I'm hoping to offer guided day trips and hikes around NSW for people who want the experience but aren't sure how to take the first step alone.
If that sounds like you, or if you've got a trip of your own you think belongs here, get in touch. I'd love to hear about it.
